Family Tent for Backpacking and Car Camping

Since our daughter was born, our lives have undergone numerous changes. One of these includes saying goodbye to the tiny 2-person tent my husband and I have enjoyed for the past 2 years. Although we will keep the tent for the occasional 2 person outing, we have now graduated to a 4 person tent!

Why the bigger tent? We plan on taking all our kids camping with us. Before we bought the REI-Half Dome 4-person tent, I did quite a bit of research on larger backpacking tents. This one had the best reviews, and it is something that we can grow into. I love that is is lightweight enough to backpack with, but big enough to car camp in. The price can't be beat either!

If you are considering a lightweight 4-person backpacking tent, I highly recommend this one. We will be taking it on our first camping and hiking trip next weekend to Shenandoah National Park. I will update with a review on the park and some the hiking trails as well as a review on how the tent worked out.

  1. Hi there,

I couldn't find any direct contact info for you so I'm going with this.

I'm thinking of starting a blog about hiking in Cincinnati as well. I am planning on focusing on shorter trails and day trips. Not longer back packing/camping trips like yourself. I am also thinking of covering the 60 hikes within 60 miles of Cincinnati.

I just wanted to check with you and make sure you were cool with it. I was also thinking we should link to each other to help people find a greater variety of hikes... and increase our page views :)

Let me know what you think, you can e-mail me at tomaguero@gmail.com

  2. We have the Half Dome 4 for the same reason-- although we are in a larger boat, so to speak. When we backpack with our 5 kids, we carry an HD 4 and an HD2. Depending on the night, the kids might share the 4 and we take the 2, or the older kids are in the 2, and we are in the 4. When the boys were younger and it was just me and them (car not backpacking), I could get the 3 of us into the 2.

I am glad to see that REI brought the 4 back. Both the HD2 and 4 went through a redesign for 2010.

  3. Needed to write you one very small word to say thank you as before just for the pleasant techniques you’ve contributed in this article. It is certainly generous with people like you in giving publicly all a number of us would have marketed for an e book to make some dough for themselves, even more so seeing that you could possibly have done it in the event you considered necessary. These tactics additionally worked like the good way to be certain that the rest have similar dreams the same as mine to know a lot more in respect of this matter. Certainly there are lots of more fun sessions in the future for folks who looked over your blog post.
